18 Degree Average

Tuesday’s feel like 3 days wrapped up in one! My day starts around 6:15 am when I get up and ends around midnight when my head hits the pillow exhausted!

What I do during those 17+ hours is get ready for work, teach class 1, do school prep during office hours, drive to class 2, eat lunch, teach class 2, drive an hour home, change clothes, re-do hair and makeup, eat, and go to work at the bar. After my shift at the bar, I come home and have a snack while unwinding with my BF. Then, we brush our teeth and go to bed. Sometimes we may watch a little t.v. or I might read a bit.

Sigh.

Yesterday was very cold. There wasn’t much snowfall, but the mounds and piles of snow and ice from Sunday and Monday was enough. Yesterday’s challenge was the bitter cold. We averaged somewhere around 18 degrees, not factoring in wind chill. Many schools in the area were closed because of the cold temperatures. But, not my college.

I am continuing my self-imposed challenge of wearing a skirt.  It’s a little bit crazy and a little bit of fun all rolled into one.  Below is the pin that inspired my outfit.

Black v-neck sweater: JCP. Black scoop neck t-shirt: Old Navy. Pearl necklace: ? Pearl earrings:? Light khaki skirt: (thrifted.) Pearl bracelet: Elder Beerman. Black fleece leggings: Walgreens. Fitbit: gift. Daisy ring: gift. Black flat riding boots: Target.

The key here is layering!  It was easy to copy this look with very similar pieces!  In the inspo. photo. she is wearing a black top, light-colored skirt, black tights and shoes, and simple jewelry.  For me, I copied this look using a black v-neck sweater layered over a black long-sleeved scoopneck t-shirt.  I needed the extra layer to keep the cold away!  I am wearing a very light-colored khaki pencil skirt.  Underneath of my skirt I went with fleeced-lined leggings.  They look a lot like tights, but feel like blankets wrapped around my legs.

I was tempted to wear my black leather booties to really capture the essence of the photo, but with all the snow and ice I went the safe and practical (and warm) route.  I am wearing my knee-high black riding boots.  For jewelry, I went with a long strand of pearls that I wrapped for 3 strands, a 3-strand pearl bracelet, and an opal and silver daisy ring.  I did keep my hair long and loose with some curl.

I really liked this outfit and despite the frigid weather I was warm and comfortable in my layers.  Would you dare to wear a skirt in 18 degree weather?  How are you keeping warm?
