March-ing On!

Time is Marching on!  Today is the first day of March.  February is such a short month that it is usually come and gone before I feel like I can really get anything accomplished within the month!  Thankfully, some of the other, longer, months help to make up for it.

Last Thursday, I wore one of the outfits that I had created a few weeks back when we suffered a bitter cold spell.  But, since the weather was less harsh last week, I wore those outfits.  I have to admit that I was a bit cold all day on Thursday, though.  The dress and sweater that I wore are both thin articles of clothing and didn’t keep me very well insulated.  But, the arrival of March reminds us that the weather will break, soon.  (At least that’s what I keep telling myself.)

Even though I was a tad chilly all day, I did receive a compliment from one of my peers.  They said that I looked Spring-like.  I don’t usually wear my hair pulled back to class, but I did that day.  I actually liked the way that it looked with the flower pinned in to my hair.  Throwing a sweater on over a dress is an easy way to get more wears out of dresses.  And, it makes it a bit different than the traditional cardigan or blazer as a completer-piece.

Since it is the beginning of a new month, I want to take a few moments and update you on my progress with my New Year’s Resolutions.  You can see the original list here.

Health and Well-Being

My goals for this category are pretty standard: drink more water, work out, be more active, lose 7 lbs., and brush teeth nightly before bed.  I didn’t focus as much on this area as I would have liked.  There are many factors, but the working out and weight loss didn’t happen.  The last time that I weighed myself (last week) I had lost half of what I wanted to– I’m about 2 lbs. away from my goal weight that I wanted to reach on 3/9.  I think it’s pretty safe to say that I am not going to hit my mark, but I can’t rule it out completely.   My FitBit has helped me understand how active I am normally and strive to increase my daily steps and what not.  I’m on the right path there.  I’ve done extremely well with brushing my teeth before bed, though!  I have missed a few nights, but only 4 I think since the start of the new year.  That’s huge for me!


This section is an ongoing process for me and it involves continuing with my debt reduction plan, pay off my credit card by May and work on retirement planning and savings.  I have made some good headway in this category and feel really good about it.  I am paying on the student loans and am on-track to pay off that credit card by the goal date.  I also mentioned last update that I started payroll deduction for my 401k through my bartending job.

I also took advantage of one of my local bank’s marketing offers for a free $200 if you opened a checking account and used their online banking tool.  I’ve been wanting to switch banks for awhile now and this was just the push that I needed to do it!  I switched my direct deposit allocation through school to put 10% of my weekly check directly into my savings account.  Lastly, on the advice of a friend I met with a financial planner to make sure that I am taking the rights steps to meet the goals that I set for myself.  We’ve only had our initial meeting and we haven’t really started “working” yet, but the plan is in motion.


Finally, this misc. category.  My goals here relate to my hobbies: travel more, improve blog, read, sew, and post to YouTube.  I did o.k. in this area.  I have two short weekend trips planned for the Spring.  One is to visit Vegas–a place that I’ve never been and the other is to Florida to hep my sister celebrate her Master’s degree.  I am reading a book but it’s hard for me to find a lot of free time so I plan to catch up on Spring Break with my pleasure reading.

I haven’t been posting on my schedule for the blog as much as I would like.  I am still trying to find time to balance everything, but I am cognizant of it and trying very hard.  The same is true with my YouTube channel.  As I mentioned, February is such a short month its hard to meet those goals within the span of 28 days.  I only put up 1 video during February instead of 2, which is my goal.  I guess that means that’s another thing to add to the Spring Break list of to-do’s!  Lastly, is the sewing goal.  I have not done any sewing so far this year.  I need to come up with a project that I can work on.  Perhaps I’ll try another skirt.  I’ve yet to nail that pattern from before.  It looks like Spring break is going to be filled with lots of work on my hobbies and (fun) to-do’s.

There you have it!  I’ve done well in many area’s, but I need to re-focus my attention on some of my goals in order to make progress in them.  How about you?  How are you doing with your goals?  It’s o.k. to slip up and take a step backwards.  The important thing is that you recommit and start taking steps forward again.  After all, to err is human.
