Sorry about the long absence!  Classes ended on May 6 for me and that weekend I flew to Florida to see my sister graduate with her Master’s degree in nursing.  The week of the 10th-16th I spent 3 days at my volunteer gig learning 2 more tours and doing my normal day of service.

It’s always  a huge adjustment when I go from full speed ahead to a snail’s crawl.  You would think that I would be overjoyed, but I tend to feel very listless and get bored easily.  That was pretty much the gist of last week.  Luckily, this weekend was Memorial Day weekend so I actually did things that made me feel like a productive person.

Saturday morning my husband and I went grocery shopping and bought lots of fresh fruit and healthy food for our upcoming diet.  Sunday morning I made a key lime pie to take to my Aunt and Uncle’s for a small BBQ gathering.  And we finished off the 3 day weekend by going to my in-laws on Monday afternoon from hot dogs, homemade ice cream, and kite flying.  Then, when we came home I printed and addressed all of the invites for our “wedding reception.”

In other news, I haven’t been going many places and getting dressed— I wear khaki pants, a white button up, and a blue blazer to my volunteer job.  I have also picked up a 4th shift at my bartending gig because one of my co-workers had to cut back.  It’s not the worst thing since it’s my only income source during the summer months.  What I have been doing is focusing on my YouTube Channel.  Here are some of the videos that I’ve posted over the last few weeks:

Last Class

Because of the two Monday holidays in Spring semester my college has the semester end on a Monday.  Tuesday through the following Monday is the exam period.  Usually, I have my exams on the later days– Thursday for a T/Tr class and the Monday for my M/W classes.  But, this year I lucked out!  My exams were Tuesday and Wednesday.

As I am sitting here writing this, I am done with the Spring semester.  All of my grading is done, I just need to log the grades into the system, turn in my daily sign-in sheets and mileage tracking and I am officially D-O-N-E!

On Monday, the sun was shining and it was a wonderful day.  I felt as if I could finally take some time on Monday morning and get things in order.  This prompted me to want to dress up for the last day of class.  I put on a floral skirt, a shot-sleeved sweater, and swept my hair back.  It was a look that felt very Mad Men-esque.

The last (and first) time that I wore this skirt I paired it with a long-sleeved purple v-neck sweater.  I accessorized with a turquoise twisted bead necklace and nude pumps.  This time around I stuck with the same basic formula: sweater, necklace, heels.  But for a more true Spring version I am wearing a short-sleeved sweater and sans hose!  I chose a black open-toe wedge with a cork heel.  Lastly, a simple strand of gold beads adorned my neck.

These two outfits are very similar, but do you have a favorite?  Let me know in the comments below.

It’s May!  I don’t know why I find that so exciting, but I do.  Perhaps it’s because I have a break on the horizon, the weather is mostly warm and mild, the flowers and trees are blooming, and things are going well.

The end of the Spring semester is both a boon and a curse.  It’s a blessing because who doesn’t love time off from work?  Especially in the Summer when there are books to read and pools to enjoy?  The flip side of that equation is that when I am not teaching I am not getting paid for teaching.  Funny how that works, isn’t it?  Luckily, I have my 2nd job– bartending to fall back on but it can introduce some stress over the cash flow.  I have to be very mindful of the budget and that means that I can’t just go out with my friends, see every new Summer blockbuster movie, attend endless concerts and festivals, so on and so forth.  I have the time just not the money!  And when I have the money, I don’t have the time.  Isn’t that the plot of The Gift of the Magi?

I digress.

Let’s talk about my progress (or lack of) on my New Year’s Resolutions for 2015. Here are the goals:

Health/Well Being

  • Lose 7 lbs. by 3/9/2015 (9 weeks) by following the South Beach Diet
  • workout (3x’s per week–cardio and weights)
  • Be more active
  • Brush and floss more often

I did not lose those 7 lbs and it might be because I also didn’t manage to start working out.  I am making a conscious effort to be more active, though.  Since my last update post on 4-3 I have hit my 10,000 step goal 23 of 28 days.  That’s a win in my book!  I am also making a re-commitment to brushing and flossing.  Now that I have a good thing going with the nightly brushing I want to add flossing into the mix.  Since the Spring semester is ending shortly I feel confident that I can start a workout program and get my weight back under control.

  • Continue with debt reduction plan: eliminate credit card debt by 5/2015
  • Continue to pay on student loans
  • Retirement planning/savings

This is probably my best category as far as progress goes.  This month I will be making the last payment on my credit card.  I will continue to pay down my student loans and the retirement plan and savings is all set up to happen automatically which is great!

  • Travel more/ Go skydiving
  • Blog– continue to improve– update theme, better back-end organization, ad revenue (equal or exceed ad revenue earnings for 2014)
  • Read 12 books
  • Improve sewing skills (attend a class at Jo Ann Fabric (?), make 3 useable/wearable items)
  • Continue to improve my Youtube channel and post more frequently– a minimum of 2 video’s per month, ideally 3-4

I have a weekend trip planned for this month so that takes care of the travel.  I am hoping that I can make some changes to the blog now that I will have more time to work on things, but I’ve said that in the past and nothing ever came of it!  Also, I am looking forward to reading more.  I am a book behind, so I need to catch up.  I also need to get started on the sewing goal because I haven’t touched my sewing machine once this year.  I am doing o.k. with Youtube.  I did manage to post 3 video’s this month which makes me happy.

Here are the new/revised goals:

  • lose 6 lbs. by Father’s Day
  • fitness routine (something regimented)
  • hit 10,000 steps 5 of 7 days each week
  • brush AND floss nightly

  • Pay off c.c. 5/2015
  • continue paying student loans
  • continue adding to retirement/savings

  • Improve blog– faster loading, tagging pictures
  • read 12 books
  • sew
  • post 3 YouTube videos per month

I guess they are pretty much the same goals.  Just re-committing!
