Breaking the Rules

Monday was a very good and productive day!  I woke up around 9:30 which is pretty typical for me.  I immediately put a load of laundry in the wash and then made my coffee and breakfast.  I like to spend about 45 minutes just goofing off online.  I check Facebook, instagram, e-mail, school stuff, YouTube, etc.  Sometime after that, I will usually start my day.

Monday morning I finally had time to sit down and play with my new hair cut.  I put it in hot rollers to see how it looked.  I got a ton of volume and curl, which was good, but not the look that I was trying to achieve.  After I switched my laundry into the dryer, I worked on grading papers.  My goal was to have them graded so that I could return them in class that evening.

After a bit of grading, I folded and put away the first load of laundry.  Then, I put the second one in the wash and went to the gym for a quick workout.  I only did 25 minutes on the treadmill, but it’s tough getting back in the groove, so I was happy with that!  After my workout, I put the wash into the dryer and then took a shower.

Once I was clean, I put dinner in the crock pot.  On Monday and Wednesday’s I usually get a start on dinner and then my BF finishes it up and we eat when I get home from school around 7:30.  But, with his family member in the hospital, things have been sort of jumbled up.  I decided to cook short ribs in the crock pot since they would be o.k. until I got home to turn them off if he wanted to go to the hospital after work.  I also made a creamy cucumber salad that my Mom used to make all-the-time!

Once the laundry was dry, I folded it up and put it away.  Then, I talked to my sister on the phone for a bit and got ready for school.  It felt good to be productive and get so much accomplished!

Class was sort of the same way, too.  We heard the last 2 speeches and then I did a quick bit of lecture over the on-the-job speaking chapter.  I only covered the section where there assignment originated from and then I turned them loose to get into their groups and start discussing their group speeches.  They had about 20 minutes of class time to brainstorm a topic and start writing their purposes— the general purpose, the specific purpose, and the central idea.  The general and specific purpose should have been quite easy, but in order to write the central idea they most likely would have needed to do some research.  This made for a good homework assignment.

Then, on Wednesday they will reconvene in their groups and finish that assignment.  The next step is for them to do some research to come up with their main points.  After they decide on a strategy and main points, they will need to produce a working outline.  This will help me see if they are utilizing their time wisely.  Once they’ve got the working outline done, they are off on the preparation outline and fleshing out all of their idea’s with research and supporting material.

Although we are technically not allowed to wear jeans to school, I broke the rules on Monday and wore jeans.  But, I feel that because they aren’t blue jeans that it is closer to acceptable than not.  And, I wore heels.  I’m not really concerned that anyone would tell me I was dressed inappropriately, but I find that to be one of the most horrifying thoughts.

Inspiration from Pinterest

I saw this pin on Pinterest awhile back and thought I could recreate it quite easily.  But, I wanted to wait a few weeks since I wore my turquoise button up in Week 3 to my M/W class and in Week 8 to my Friday class.  Plus, I have so many clothes in my closet that sometimes I think it’s a waste to re-wear something two or three times in the semester while other items sit in my closet untouched.  (I know, I’m weird.)

Turquoise button up: Wal-Mart. Teal short sleev sweater: gift. Turquoise and silver earrings: Wal-Mart? Silver watch: Fossil. White jeans: (thrifted.) Silver mary janes: Shoe Carnival.

What do you think? Is the short-sleeved sweater over the long-sleeved button up a little too weird for you? Would you wear this outfit? I don’t think that I ever would have had the confidence to wear it if it wasn’t for seeing this pin. In my opinion, this is another one of those conventions that often feels a little “blogger-y” for real- life. But, maybe I’m off base?
