Baby Class

The other day I was at Wal-Mart and I broke down and bought a pair of their super-soft jersey leggings and a 1x plus sized top to go with them.  The leggings were $6 and the shirt was $7, so all-in-all I spent $14 for a new outfit.  And you know what?  I am super glad that I did!  It has been harder and harder to get dressed lately.  I’ve got 2 more days of class and then 2 days of exams that I’ll need outfits for and then a few things here and there.  Other than that, I can pretty much just live in my pajamas the rest of the time.

I wore my new outfit to work on Friday and I was not only comfortable but I felt somewhat pulled together and cute.  In fact, I wore the leggings (with a different top) again on Saturday to Baby Class.  My husband and I chose the expedited class that just focused on Labor and Delivery for First Time Parents since it was Saturday and Sunday from 9-3:30.  That time fit in to our schedules way better than the other option of 4 weeks in a row for a few hours each night.

I didn’t snap any pics of the leggings with the grey shirt that I wore them with first, but I did get a few of the second version of the outfit.

I finished off this super-comfy look with my silver watch, silver hoop earrings, and black calf-height boots.  What do you think?  Are you a fan or is it too much of a cliché?

Yellow Vibes

Yellow is not a color that is featured heavily in my wardrobe.  It’s not one of my favorite colors and with my blonde hair I often find that it is hard to pull off.  But, I do have a few yellow items and it seems that I’ve gravitated towards the sunshine color lately!  Last week I paired a pastel yellow cardigan with a deep teal jewel toned dress.  Today, I went with a bright yellow blouse anchored by black trousers and a leopard print blouse.

Yellow and leopard print is not a new/wild/creative/out-of-the-box combination.  As you can see, I’ve paired the same yellow blouse with the same leopard print cardigan twice before–once in a professional outfit with a brown skirt and once in a more casual pairing with jeans.  I’ve also done a lighter, pastel yellow sleeveless shirt with the leopard print cardigan, dark wash skinny jeans, and sandals for a Spring-time outfit.  Lastly, I’ve done a gold yellow sweater and a mustard yellow sweater with two different leopard print scarves and skirts.  Knowing that I’ve done this shirt and cardigan combo. before I actually tried my outfit with a Kelly green blouse.  However, that blouse could not accommodate my pregnant body.

Replicating

Wednesday my students were delivering their 3rd formal speech of the semester– the demonstrative speech.  It takes us two days in each class to hear all of the speeches since my class sizes are 12, 13, and 17.  If all of my students arrive on time and ready to go, the first day we will hear 6-7 speeches and the second day we finish up with the other 7-9.  In addition to it being a speech day (my favorite), I was also able to go and visit my volunteer friends.

Because I have class at noon I am not currently able to volunteer but the shift begins at 10:30 a.m. so I am able to go and visit.  Most of the volunteers arrive between 10 and 10:30 to sit and talk, enjoy a cup of coffee (or 2), and munch on whatever sweet treat someone has inevitably brought in.  Then, around 10:30 the assignments are handed out for the day and then everyone is asked to be at their post to receive guests when the museum opens its doors at 11 am.  On Wednesday I provided a sweet treat of brownies and delivered a Thank You card to the group since they all contributed to our gift but only 3 of them were able to attend our baby shower/housewarming party.  I also took each of them that were unable to attend a packet of seeds– our take home favor from the party.

The weather is definitely sweater-weather but I have very few sweaters that are long enough to give complete coverage to the bump.  I have found that the easiest outfit for me is a dress layered with tights or leggings.  On this particular day, I opted to go with this black and purple dress.  One of my favorite ways that I’ve styled it was with grey tights, boots, and blazer.  Sadly, I don’t have the grey boots anymore but I replicated the rest of the outfit as best I could.  Here is how I styled it that time and earlier in the semester when I was only about 6 months pregnant:

This time around I went with my black riding boots, black and silver earrings, a silver watch, and I added a silver cat pin to the lapel of my blazer for a touch of whimsy.  I prefer the grey boots, but I did like the way that the black played off of the faux buckle belt of the dress.  Earlier in the semester I obscured the faux-buckle by pulling the strings of the belt around the to the front and looping them over.  This outfit worked well and most of the day I wore it without the blazer because I was a touch toasty and in somewhat restricted my movement.

Luckily, as I announced in class last week we only have 8 more class sessions plus the exam.  It’s always bittersweet when class ends but since I’ve been having such a challenge with getting dressed it’s nice to know that there’s light at the end of the tunnel– I think that I can pull out 8 more “professional” outfits.  At least I hope so.
