Too Much Blue

Here’s an example of an outfit that I thought looked good at the time, but in looking back and editing the pictures I have to say that I don’t quite love it.  I wore this dress earlier in the semester and I thought it would be fun to style it again now that I’m in my 3rd trimester.  The weather is decidedly Fall-weather and so I went the layering route.  I selected a navy crew-neck t-shirt to wear under the dress and navy tights for a cohesive look.  Then, I added a dark denim jacket, suede-like booties, a silver watch, and silver and turquoise earrings.

There’s a few things that I don’t like about the outfit.  First, I actually don’t like the way that the shirt and tights match.  They seem too dark for the lighter background of the dress.  I think that one or the other would have been OK, but not both.  Also, I don’t like the booties with the outfit.  They don’t seem to match.  Lastly, I thought that my hair looked o.k. but in these pictures I think that it looks horrible and I’m not happy with my makeup.  I think that if I had done grey tights and a different hairstyle I could get behind this outfit.  But, I tried.

Now that I am nearly a month into my last trimester the little, everyday annoyances of pregnancy are starting to wear me down.  Honestly, when I look at these pictures that is what I see.  Perhaps a little pampering is in order.

Oh boy (girl).  It’s starting to get harder and harder to get dressed each week as my body grows and changes due to pregnancy.  I’ve made it into the 3rd trimester– I am at 28 weeks– woohooo– approximately 12 weeks to go.  But, at this point I pretty much can’t fit any of my skirts and I’m growing out of my dress pants.  I have 2 pairs of maternity dress pants– one in khaki and one in black.  I have about 16 days left to teach this semester so I’m going to have to make heavy use of those 2 pairs of maternity pants along with some of my dresses that can still stretch over the bump.

This outfit is based on this pin, here.  I’ve done a version of this outfit pre-pregnancy.  It’s basic and simple but with the accessories feels very preppy, pulled together, and polished.  I’ve started with my navy blue trousers, chambray button-up, and an oatmeal colored cardigan.  In the original photo, the outfit is finished with a choker length multi-string pearl necklace, an animal print tote bag, and camel colored leather driving shoes.  I went with my single strand pearl necklace that I doubled, pearl drop earrings, navy blue pumps, and my camel colored purse (not shown here).  I think that this outfit looks good but I cannot lie– I feel like a bloated hippo.  Oh well.

My outfit on Wednesday was based off of this pin.  There is something about this photo that really resonates with me!  I love how fresh-faced the woman looks– her makeup is definitely done but yet simple.  I also love how she is pairing a casual striped top with a vibrant red blazer and a statement necklace–sans earrings and her hair is perfectly done/un-done.  I’ve done a recreation of this look, before, but this is the first time doing it while pregnant.

I feel like I wear this blue and white striped maternity t-shirt all.the.time.  I really don’t, but it does feel like I do.  As in the inspiration photo I paired it with a red blazer, a silver statement necklace, and bold red lips.  I went with red ballet flats and black maternity trousers to finish the look and make it work-appropriate.  I went without bronzer and a heavy dose of highlighter to get that same fresh-faced glowing look.  Honestly, I feel puffy and pregnant in this photo and not so dewy and glowy.

Here are three other ways that I have worn this top:
