Over the weekend the temperatures dropped to more Fall-like temperatures for Northeast Ohio and they are expected to stay that way for the first part of this week, at least.  This morning when I went to class the temperature was around 70 degrees.  I like living somewhere where there are seasons and different temperatures but I am most definitely of the mid-range– not too hot and not too cold.  For this reason, Spring is my favorite season followed closely by Fall, then Summer and lastly Winter.  Winter would be great if it only lasted for December and January and then it was over!  Anyway.

For this Fall-like weather I copied the above image from Pinterest with a few tweaks to put my own spin on it.  First, I started with my chambray shirt dress and basic black leggings.  Then, I added my boyfriend cardigan in mustard and my oversized gold watch.  This is where the similarities end.  I very well could have gone with my black riding boots but I chose to go with my cognac brown ones, instead.  I thought that the golden-brown color worked well with the color of the cardigan.  Plus, I tend to associate brown more with Fall than I do black.  I am not always a fan of mixing black and tan but I think in the right situation it can be done.  I can’t see the hair and makeup of the inspiration so I was on my own and I went with my large gold leaf earrings, bronzey brown eye makeup, and an orange-y lip color to complete my Fall look.  And, for the first time I wore my hair slightly wavy/disheveled to class.  If I had a little more time I would have used the flat-iron to accentuate the waves but I didn’t.

I really liked this outfit and how I was able to so closely copy from the Pinterest photo.  I also liked that this shirt dress and legging combination is easy to wear and comfortable at my current status of 26 weeks pregnant.  What do you think?

Yesterday I used the above image as the inspiration for my outfit.  I liked the way that the blush blazer slightly dressed up the flower print pants even though she’s wearing it with a basic white blouse and flat sandals.  I felt like I could accomplish a similar look and feel with my flowered pants.

Although the color palette of my pants is quite different from the inspiration I still think that I created a similar outfit.  I went with a khaki blazer and brown ballet flats, however.  I waffled between going with the color of the blazer in the original photo–blush pink or with the structure of a blazer.  In the end, because the blush colored cardigan that I have is a thick and fuzzy sweater material I opted for the blazer.  I was going to try for my cognac heels but I just couldn’t talk myself into it even though I thought they looked awesome.  A gold watch and bronze feather earrings finished out the look.

I liked this look and I received 2 compliments on the flowered pants.  But, I thought that it looked better in person than it photographed.  I was a little sad reviewing the photo’s for this post.  Also, at some point during the day– perhaps while I was taking my afternoon nap, the seam below the zipper came un-sewed.  I’d say split but that sounds so dramatic.  It’s bad enough that I use the belly band to conceal that the fly of my pants is completely open and the waistband is folded down under my belly.  So, I had no choice but to change my pants for my evening class.  This is probably the last wearing of the flowered pants for the rest of my pregnancy and maybe ever.

Monday was D-Day for my students.  They delivered their first speech to introduce a classmate.  I used this assignment last Fall to add a 4th formal speech in to the semester and I thought that it worked well.  First of all, they work with a partner through the preparation phases and then they have someone to stand up at the front of the classroom with them for “moral support.”  I always tell them that the first one is the most difficult because it is the first one but I do also feel bad because it comes so early that there’s a lot of things we can’t discuss and I often feel as if I’m throwing them in the deep end of the pool.  But, I do provide them with as many life preservers as possible!

I get a reputation as a “strict” teacher because they learn right off the bat that I don’t take no crap.  They can try the, “I didn’t know xyz!“. But I’ll call them on it every time because all of the expectations are clearly identified on their online learning management system that they can access at any time AND I provide them examples and all of the grading sheets ahead of time to prepare them.  It’s always the ones who miss class or who don’t use the “life preservers” provided to them that struggle in the deep end.

For my outfit I went with this blue floral maxi-dress.  I feel like I’ve worn this dress a lot during my pregnancy but then when I look back I really haven’t.  Lately, I am feeling as if I don’t have many options with my clothing.  On this day I wore a shirt-sleeved royal blue cardigan over the dress.  Because of the grey in the print I am always drawn to pairing it with silver accessories and/or jewelry so I made a conscious decision to wear my oversized gold watch and a gold beaded necklace.  I went with gold earrings that have accents of turquoise and pink in them.  I wanted to wear heels since I knew that I would basically be sitting and evaluating speeches during my whole work day but in the end I didn’t.  I went with my brown ballet flats even though I didn’t love the way they looked.

This outfit came out O.K. But I can’t say that I loved it.  I went with a strong eye look of navy shadow and lots of black mascara, hot pink blush on my cheeks, and a soft and shiny pinky-nude lipstick/gloss.

Tuesday I wore my version of this outfit:

I didn’t take any pictures because I was running late to work and then by the time I got home I was not feeling photogenic.  I don’t have a sweater like hers so I went with my leopard print cardigan worn open over a black t-shirt.  I did manage to use my belly band and make my lighter wash distressed jeans work.  I went with simple silver hoop earrings, a silver watch, and black ballet flats with a silver medallion embellishment.  When I came downstairs my husband complimented my outfit and that made me smile.  It felt good to like my outfit and feel composed and put-together.  But, as soon as I got to work I was warm and so the cardigan came off and hung on the back of my chair all day.  Oh well, I tried.
