Thursday seemed like a great day to dress up last week and when I learned that we would be attending a 3.5 hour presentation from HR I was happy that I skewed more towards the business end of business casual.

Luckily, I don’t feel like I need to buy a whole new wardrobe for my new job.  I am having a lot of fun making some dressy outfits more casual and vice versa.  And, I can theoretically repeat every outfit I’ve ever worn while teaching because these people have never seen them.  But, I do see the same people 5 days in a row as opposed to every other in the classroom.

The pin on the left served as my inspiration for this outfit but I didn’t want to make the animal print the focus.  I wanted the red pants to be the star of the show.  I chose to pair them with a short-sleeved white button-up and my khaki blazer.  I made sure to cuff the sleeves to show off the silk lining and pull in the white blouse.  I was going to wear my black wedges, but I didn’t want a tall shoe that day so I opted for the leopard print ballet flats.  And, they stay more true to the inspiration photo.  I added a long silver pendant necklace, black flower earrings, and a silver watch to complete the outfit.  I received two compliments on this outfit and that made me feel really good!

Friday always feels like a day to go casual so I did!  I went with my dark wash bootcut jeans, a silky striped top, coral cardigan, and my black espadrille wedges.  Delicate silver jewelry completed the look.

I liked this outfit, but I wasn’t feeling well that day and I had chills.  I spent the majority of the day with my dark wash denim jacket on.  That kind of ruined the look but since I wasn’t feeling well I got over it pretty quickly.

Happy Summer!

I know I’m a day late on this post and that yesterday was the first day of Summer, but yesterday seems to have evaporated into thin air.  I got up around 8:30 ish and had a cup of coffee while surfing the web.  Then, I spent some time completing an online job application.  Why do those things take so long?!?  I had breakfast and another cup of coffee at some point.  And then I decided that I wanted to go to Target.

I figured that while I was still messing about I could do a load of laundry.  Usually, it takes 35 minutes to wash and 45-60 minutes to dry.  I hadn’t showered yet, so I thought it would all work out perfectly.  But, the washer in my apartment complex was doing something weird.  After I put the clothes in to wash I set the timer for 35 minutes and went to shower.  As I was combing out my hair the washer time went off.  I went to switch the clothes from the washer to the dryer, but something caused an error in the wash cycle and there were 17 minutes left to go.  I re-started the washer and then resumed getting ready.

While all of this was going on, LeBron James was returning home from the airport.  His mansion is less than one mile from my apartment so I was slightly concerned that all the fans lining the road near his house would make a quick Target trip difficult.  So, while I waited for my laundry to dry I watched the live link of the coverage.  Once he arrived home, came out of the van to thank the fans, and went inside the crowd dispersed pretty quickly.  This was good news for me and my shopping excursion.  I also made cucumber salad and marinated meat for dinner while waiting on my laundry.

By the time that my laundry was dried, folded, and put away it was about 2pm.  I set off for Target!  I had several things on my list: a new bathing suit top, cooling mattress topper, pool toys, makeup, vitamins, cotton balls, etc.  I took my time leisurely strolling through the store and looking at this, that, and other things.  By the time that I arrived home it was about 4 pm.  I chopped the vegetables for dinner: shish kebabs and then got changed into my running gear and waited for my husband to come home.

Once he got home around 5:45 he changed and then we went for a run– together, but separate.  We both had difficult and not-so-great runs, but we did it.  Once back home, I quickly rinsed off in the shower and then finished dinner while my husband showered.  Then, we did our normal nightly routine of reviewing houses that our realtor sends, watching YouTube videos, and rehashing our days.

The one thing that I wanted to do yesterday, but didn’t?  Go to the pool!  So, guess what I am doing today?  Yep, I’m about to get changed and head there now.

Oh, yes– my outfit from yesterday!  I almost forgot.

red-orange t-shirt, flower print shorts, silver necklace, metallic sandals

I paired this red-orange t-shirt with these 3 inch flowered print shorts.  I go back and forth on whether or not I think the shirt matches.  Sometimes I will adamantly swear that the red-orange matches the hue in the center of the magenta/pink flowers.  Other times I am convinced that it doesn’t match and people are probably questioning if I am color blind.  And then sometimes I feel like it may not match, but it goes.  Besides the t-shirt and shorts, I added my silver watch and some coral/red wooden bead earrings.  I slipped my feet into these sandals with multi-colored metallic straps and was nearly ready.  For your sake, I tried to make this outfit slightly more interesting by adding this long silver necklace, but to be honest if I wasn’t taking a picture for the blog I wouldn’t have bothered.

Are these outfits interesting and/or inspiring to you?  Should I continue to post them or just go on hiatus for them Summer months?  Please let me know in the comments below.

Spring Blooms

March 24, 2016 Tr (m)

Today is the last day of class before Spring Break.  I’m not sure who’s more excited– me or my students.  But, I wanted to end on a high note with a professional and springy outfit.  This is the dress that I bought to wear in celebration of my one-year wedding anniversary dinner.  I thought that this dress worked really well for that event and I knew that it was a professional dress that would also work well for work.

As a reminder, here is how I wore it for my anniversary dinner:

For dinner I chose to highlight the coral pink tones in the dress.  I added a long-sleeved cropped cardigan in that color and painted my toe nails with a similar shade.  For jewelry, I went with a pink pearl necklace, Pandora charm bracelet, and grey flower stud earrings.  The belt came with the dress and for sentimental reasons I wore the same shoes that I wore on my wedding day.

This time, I chose to highlight the grey tones in the dress and layer a grey blazer over top.  I kept the belt, added pink pearl drop earrings and a 3-strand pink pearl bracelet.  I went with nude hose and black mary jane style shoes.

I went to the mall after class and I received two compliments on my dress and one on my shoes.  But, I will say that I think at least one of those complimenters was trying to butter me up to buy things.

There you have it!
