Yesterday was a super casual day—mostly because it was Saturday and my last day of the workweek.  I’ve found that Saturday’s can go one of two ways at my new job. 1. They can be laid back, slower-paced, and bordering on fun OR 2. They can be filled with lots of grumpy or not nice people and since it’s a skeleton crew it can be difficult to get assistance.  Yesterday was a number one until the last hour of the day, but let’s not focus on the 15% of the day that was trying.

My outfit consisted of a very warm and comfy black thermal that was a gift for participating in Bar Championships when I worked at Friday’s.  I paired it with lighter wash bootcut jeans, tennis shoes, minimal makeup sans eyeliner, and day 2 hair with a healthy dose of dry shampoo.

Now that it’s December I am in full-fledged Christmas mode.  I’ve been decorating the house over the past week or so.  This is the first year that we’ve ever put up lights outside on our balcony.  I’m not quite done with everything but once it’s finished I’ll post pictures.  On Friday I busted out one of my Christmas shirts to wear to work.  I was super excited about it but my husband muttered, “It’s a little early.”  But it’s not.  Christmas is 3 weeks from today and in 4 weeks from today we will be toasting in the New Year.

How are you doing on your resolutions or goals for 2016?  If you haven’t met or exceeded them now is the time to kick it in to gear and give it the ‘ol college try.  With the break that I took from blogging I didn’t do a monthly update but I plan to do a big re-cap and wrap-up in the next few weeks.

This week has been a short work week with Thanksgiving on Thursday.  I was off my normal Wednesday which was great for getting things ready for the holiday.  I had the pleasure of hosting my first Thanksgiving for my parents, my husband’s parents and sister, and my grandma.  There were 8 of us in total.

Here are some pictures of the table, appetizers and munchies, and of course the turkey!  I used Alton Brown’s method and brined it the night before cooking it.  It turned out very well–beautiful browned skin, great flavor, and juicy and moist meat.

My husband asked me what I thought he should wear and I had already decided on my outfit (duh!) so I picked out something that would complement mine.  He didn’t realize it at first but he should have known better.  We took this photo before everyone arrived to eat and it may very well become our Christmas card photo.  I also made sure to get a photo of all 8 of us before everyone fell asleep or left for the day.

Thanksgiving 2016 (9)

My husband and I both had to work on Friday after the holiday and I wore the very same outfit to work.  When my husband got out of the shower and saw my outfit he said, “Repeat!!”  I just laughed.

My outfit for Friday was my recreation of this pin, here.  I think I nailed it: plaid collared shirt, white cable knit sweater, distressed jeans, and tan booties.

Now that we have celebrated and enjoyed Thanksgiving I am in full-on Christmas mode.  I have been chomping at the bit to get my totes out of storage and see what I have for this year’s theme (blue and silver) and what I need to complete my Winter Wonderland.  I was also thinking about printing out my pictures for my Christmas cards and get a start on addressing those.  It usually takes me a few days to get them all done and get the addresses from a few family members that may have moved or I neglected to write down.

What about you?  Do you celebrate Christmas?  When do you start decorating?  Sound off in the comments below.

If my blog were a kid it would be entering kindergarten this fall.  Can you believe that I’ve been writing this little blog o’ mine since August 2011?  That’s crazy to me!  Let’s take a look down memory lane back at my first day outfits.

August 2011

This was my debut outfit on this blog!  I went with a very conservative black and white dress, three-fourth sleeved black cardigan, and basic black pumps.  I accessorized with a red belt, red earrings, and a black and red macadamia nut bracelet.  Oh, and I’m sorry about the not-so-good photo, but that’s what I was working with back in the day.

For my second year of teaching, I conducted a poll with 4 outfit options and wore the one that earned the most votes.  I think my poll received 12 votes in total!  Lol.  This outfit pairs a dark khaki skirt with a jersey knit ruffled tank top.  I added a short-sleeve royal blue cardigan, blue and gold earrings, a shiny shell bracelet, gold watch, and nude pumps.  I liked this outfit, but I can’t say that it was my favorite.

Year number three I went with a pair of cropped red/burgundy ankle pants.  A loose and flowy striped tank top is comfortable and professional when topped off with a black cardigan.  A silver watch, silver and magenta bracelet, and black open-toed wedges complete the look.

Two years ago, I wore a blue ruffled shift dress for the first day.  I added a flowered cardigan that I no longer own but loved dearly while it was in my wardrobe!  I added a purple and gold bubble necklace, gold hoop earrings, a gold bracelet, gold watch, and navy blue pumps.  I enjoyed how much color and personality was in this look.

Last year I went with a grey jersey dress.  I paired it with silver mary jane shoes and topped off the sleeveless dress with a red short-sleeve cardigan.  Red is a bold color, but it also makes me feel confident so it’s often a good choice for me.  Silver hoop earrings and a long silver necklace with a cluster of pendants completed the look.

You can see that my default is to go with a dress, cardigan, pumps, and some jewelry!  The Fall semester starts two weeks from tomorrow for the students, but as I’ve mentioned before I am taking a semester off.  I am not returning to the classroom this Fall.  I am returning to work tomorrow, though.  I posted about the Pinterest outfit recreations that I plan to wear for the first week, but we will see what I actually wear.  I’ve purchased a new pair of jeans and a new blouse since then.

The first post was published on 8/27/2011, but the first outfit post was published on 8/28/2011.  I hope that you’ve enjoyed this look down memory lane as I gear up to say Happy 5th Birthday to
