Working On It

Greetings!  I know that I haven’t been posting outfit photo’s lately, but that’s because I haven’t been wearing many notable outfits!  But, I have been focusing on my resolutions.  I am doing well with eating about 1,300 calories a day and being more active.  I’ve started doing yoga once a week in a studio and another time with a video series on YouTube.  I’ve also been trying to get to the gym to sweat it out once a week.  I’m really happy with my committment and progress on those goals.

Secondly, I’ve been spending a lot of lazy days reading.  I just updated the Book Report page to include my thoughts on the last 3 books that I’ve read so go check it out!  Lastly, I’ve been posting content to Youtube which I would be ever so delighted if you would watch:

It’s May!  I don’t know why I find that so exciting, but I do.  Perhaps it’s because I have a break on the horizon, the weather is mostly warm and mild, the flowers and trees are blooming, and things are going well.

The end of the Spring semester is both a boon and a curse.  It’s a blessing because who doesn’t love time off from work?  Especially in the Summer when there are books to read and pools to enjoy?  The flip side of that equation is that when I am not teaching I am not getting paid for teaching.  Funny how that works, isn’t it?  Luckily, I have my 2nd job– bartending to fall back on but it can introduce some stress over the cash flow.  I have to be very mindful of the budget and that means that I can’t just go out with my friends, see every new Summer blockbuster movie, attend endless concerts and festivals, so on and so forth.  I have the time just not the money!  And when I have the money, I don’t have the time.  Isn’t that the plot of The Gift of the Magi?

I digress.

Let’s talk about my progress (or lack of) on my New Year’s Resolutions for 2015. Here are the goals:

Health/Well Being

  • Lose 7 lbs. by 3/9/2015 (9 weeks) by following the South Beach Diet
  • workout (3x’s per week–cardio and weights)
  • Be more active
  • Brush and floss more often

I did not lose those 7 lbs and it might be because I also didn’t manage to start working out.  I am making a conscious effort to be more active, though.  Since my last update post on 4-3 I have hit my 10,000 step goal 23 of 28 days.  That’s a win in my book!  I am also making a re-commitment to brushing and flossing.  Now that I have a good thing going with the nightly brushing I want to add flossing into the mix.  Since the Spring semester is ending shortly I feel confident that I can start a workout program and get my weight back under control.

  • Continue with debt reduction plan: eliminate credit card debt by 5/2015
  • Continue to pay on student loans
  • Retirement planning/savings

This is probably my best category as far as progress goes.  This month I will be making the last payment on my credit card.  I will continue to pay down my student loans and the retirement plan and savings is all set up to happen automatically which is great!

  • Travel more/ Go skydiving
  • Blog– continue to improve– update theme, better back-end organization, ad revenue (equal or exceed ad revenue earnings for 2014)
  • Read 12 books
  • Improve sewing skills (attend a class at Jo Ann Fabric (?), make 3 useable/wearable items)
  • Continue to improve my Youtube channel and post more frequently– a minimum of 2 video’s per month, ideally 3-4

I have a weekend trip planned for this month so that takes care of the travel.  I am hoping that I can make some changes to the blog now that I will have more time to work on things, but I’ve said that in the past and nothing ever came of it!  Also, I am looking forward to reading more.  I am a book behind, so I need to catch up.  I also need to get started on the sewing goal because I haven’t touched my sewing machine once this year.  I am doing o.k. with Youtube.  I did manage to post 3 video’s this month which makes me happy.

Here are the new/revised goals:

  • lose 6 lbs. by Father’s Day
  • fitness routine (something regimented)
  • hit 10,000 steps 5 of 7 days each week
  • brush AND floss nightly

  • Pay off c.c. 5/2015
  • continue paying student loans
  • continue adding to retirement/savings

  • Improve blog– faster loading, tagging pictures
  • read 12 books
  • sew
  • post 3 YouTube videos per month

I guess they are pretty much the same goals.  Just re-committing!

March really flew by!  I think it always does, though.  My birthday is the 1st of April (no joke) and I think that since I spend so much time anticipating it that I forget to enjoy March.  But, from now on March will have a special place in my heart.  Especially March 7 since that is now my wedding anniversary.

On Thursday I went with a basic black pant look.  I think that because I abstain from wearing black pants that when I do I always really like the look!  There is something so simple about a great fitting pair of black trousers with heels and a button-up dress shirt.  It doesn’t matter what color of shirt it is, I think that it is the epitome of business casual.  This time around, I went with a bright magenta button-up.

Although it was warm they were calling for rain so I added a black cardigan to the mix as well.  I think this is a very simple but polished look.  And, since it is the end of the month I thought that I would go ahead and do my Resolutions Update, as well.  You can find the original list of goals here.

In the Misc. category I did manage to travel.  Over Spring Break weekend my BF and I went to Las Vegas.  In addition to sightseeing we also became husband and wife!  I have just recently finished a book which I wrote about on my Book Report page.  I did not sew anything and I can’t say that I’ve really made any improvements to the blog.  I think that I may have slipped a little because my posting has become erratic.  I also didn’t do so great with my You Tube channel, either.  I posted 2 videos, but I was really hoping for 3 or 4.

I have also had a streak of bad luck in the Health and Well Being category.  I’ve been brushing my teeth before bed and that has now become the rule rather than the exception.  But, I haven’t done well in the other area’s.  I need to get serious and be more focused.  I am going to start by making a goal to hit 10,000 steps EVERY day.  I hit it sometimes, but not as much as I could.  Looking back, it’s about 3 or 4 days of the week.  But, I want to make more of a commitment and effort towards this goal.  And, that goes for the weight loss and working out.  I’ve let it slip to the back burner and the pounds have started to creep back on.  I am not o.k. with that and need to start taking steps to put an end to it!

I am maintaining steady progress in the Finances section, though.  Each month I make my payments on my credit cards and student loans.  I also finally set up a 401K through my second job.  And, I have a portion of my paycheck from teaching going directly into my savings account.  This is working out really well!  I am on-track to have my last credit card paid off after May of this year.  That will really help since I am not scheduled any classes over the Summer.  Also, I can add a little more to the current amount that I am paying on student loans and eradicate that debt quicker.

All-in-all I would say that I am doing a fair job at my goals.  I think that I really need to buckle down and start making some of them more if a priority!
