Fall Plaid

Monday was cooler for the temperature and I wanted something soft and cozy.  This sweater fits the bill perfectly.  I wanted to pair it with a skirt, but none of my skirts can accommodate my bump so I improvised and pulled this plaid sweater over a black faux wrap dress.  I tried it with my flat black riding boots but it didn’t look right so I opted to go with nude hose and black wedge flats.  I paired it with red and gold earrings and an oversized gold watch.  I really like this sweater– it’s maternity and it is so comfortable but it isn’t wearing well– I’ve washed it probably less than 5 times and it is already starting to pill.  Luckily, it didn’t cost a ton and it’s not a sweater that I will need to have in my wardrobe for years and years and years.  But, still.  The last time that I wore this sweater to teach in I paired it with black dress pants and red ballet flats.  I can’t say that I’ve really created very adventurous outfits but I don’t have too many options at this point, lol.

My outfit on Wednesday was based off of this pin.  There is something about this photo that really resonates with me!  I love how fresh-faced the woman looks– her makeup is definitely done but yet simple.  I also love how she is pairing a casual striped top with a vibrant red blazer and a statement necklace–sans earrings and her hair is perfectly done/un-done.  I’ve done a recreation of this look, before, but this is the first time doing it while pregnant.

I feel like I wear this blue and white striped maternity t-shirt all.the.time.  I really don’t, but it does feel like I do.  As in the inspiration photo I paired it with a red blazer, a silver statement necklace, and bold red lips.  I went with red ballet flats and black maternity trousers to finish the look and make it work-appropriate.  I went without bronzer and a heavy dose of highlighter to get that same fresh-faced glowing look.  Honestly, I feel puffy and pregnant in this photo and not so dewy and glowy.

Here are three other ways that I have worn this top:

We’re starting to get this camera thing figured out!  Yesterday my husband worked from home for part of the day because we were having the washer and dryer delivered (!!) and we weren’t sure if they would be here and have it installed before I had to go to class.  (Of course they were!). Luckily, it wasn’t a big deal for him to start the day from home.  Since he was home with me I asked him to help me, once again, with focusing the camera and getting it all set-up.  I’m excited because these pictures are much more crisp and in focus and I am happy to share them.  Plus, I am wearing this plaid maternity sweater for the first time.

I bought this sweater in my first purchase of maternity clothes in June and I picked this sweater because it was on clearance during the Summer and I thought that it would be perfect for Fall/Winter when my belly was bigger.  It’s not a super thick sweater but it is so soft and cozy and I really wish that I could wear it everyday.

For it’s debut I went with a simple and classic outfit and paired it with black maternity dress pants and red ballet flats.  I would love to dress this up for Christmas with a red skirt and black knee-high boots.  Or, I could see layering a collared button-up shirt underneath, topping it with my white frost-free vest, skinny jeans, and flat riding boots for a casual Fall outfit perfect for apple picking or a visit to the pumpkin patch.

In other news, we’re getting settled in to our new house and I hope to share pictures soon.  Right now the silliest little things make me extremely happy– like having the washer and dryer delivered and being able to do laundry.  Our next hurdle is getting the lawn mower and new vacuum cleaner and a little further down the list is new bedroom and living room furniture.  Then, we’ve got dining room table and last but not least– the nursery.  Let’s just say it’s a bit of a work in progress.
