Thursday I managed to do what almost seems impossible these days: my hair, makeup, and outfit.  Yes, I know– you are thinking, so what?  But, that’s a big triumph for me.  Now, I know that I didn’t do much with my hair– after all, I did pull it back and clip it up with a barrette, but it’s something.  Also, I really liked the way that my eye makeup came out that day.  I didn’t do anything superbly special or different– it just came together effortlessly.

My outfit isn’t anything earth-shattering but based on my limited options I felt that it was a good choice.  These olive-green pants from Old Navy have finally gotten to the point where I can no longer zip and button them.  I couldn’t believe that they were able to work as long as they did seeing as they are non-maternity.  For this outfit I pulled out the belly band to disguise the fact that the pants can’t zip or button.  Luckily, the shirt had a lot of length to it so it helps to conceal everything.  I added the maroon cardigan for warmth and went with slip on shoes.

The funny thing is that I didn’t even do anything remarkable that day.  I put all that effort in just to make a trip to Target and the grocery store to pick up a few things for Christmas dinner.  But, it did feel good to put in the time and the effort.

As I’m writing this it’s Christmas Eve and my husband and I just got home from seeing Star Wars.  I wanted to see it last weekend but he wanted a lazy weekend and I couldn’t begrudge him that.  But, I was also concerned with the holidays and the impending birth of our daughter that we wouldn’t get to go see it– but we did and I am extremely grateful.  I’m thinking of it as an early Christmas present– perhaps what might be our last date for a very long time.

Merry Christmas,

Carla

Baby Class

The other day I was at Wal-Mart and I broke down and bought a pair of their super-soft jersey leggings and a 1x plus sized top to go with them.  The leggings were $6 and the shirt was $7, so all-in-all I spent $14 for a new outfit.  And you know what?  I am super glad that I did!  It has been harder and harder to get dressed lately.  I’ve got 2 more days of class and then 2 days of exams that I’ll need outfits for and then a few things here and there.  Other than that, I can pretty much just live in my pajamas the rest of the time.

I wore my new outfit to work on Friday and I was not only comfortable but I felt somewhat pulled together and cute.  In fact, I wore the leggings (with a different top) again on Saturday to Baby Class.  My husband and I chose the expedited class that just focused on Labor and Delivery for First Time Parents since it was Saturday and Sunday from 9-3:30.  That time fit in to our schedules way better than the other option of 4 weeks in a row for a few hours each night.

I didn’t snap any pics of the leggings with the grey shirt that I wore them with first, but I did get a few of the second version of the outfit.

I finished off this super-comfy look with my silver watch, silver hoop earrings, and black calf-height boots.  What do you think?  Are you a fan or is it too much of a cliché?

For my baby shower I bought a new dress to wear.  I wanted something that featured pastel pink as the main color but that was going to be seasonally appropriate.  It was a challenge finding something in a Spring color that had sleeves for under $50 but I managed to do it!  I just kept browsing all of the different retailers that have maternity clothes until I found something that fit the bill.

This dress is made of a super soft t-shirt like material, has three-quarter length sleeves, a scoop neck, ruching on the sides, and lots of give for my belly.  I debuted this dress at my baby shower, top left.  I paired it with a bright pink boyfriend style cardigan, silver watch, and pink pearl earrings.  Because the shower was held in our new home I didn’t wear and shoes, but if I had it would have most likely been a pair of purple ballet flats.  The second time that I wore this dress, a few days later to class, I went with an olive-green boyfriend style cardigan, brown ballet flats, an oversized gold watch, and tear dropped shaped earrings with pink and turquoise accents.  Also, I went with slightly wavy/disheveled hair.  This fit of dress really shows off the baby bump and I had a lot of questions from my students about when am I due, the gender, if it’s my first, so on and so forth.  I plan to wear this dress one more time in the next few days to my second baby shower.  Because the weather is getting more and more Fall-like I am planning on wearing olive-green leggings underneath and some type of boot.  I am not sure if I will pair it with a cardigan or denim jacket– that has yet to be decided.

I really like this dress and I hope you do, too because it’s probably going to become a regular around here for the next few months.  We’ll see just how many ways I can style this dress!
