If you’ve ever been pregnant then you’ve heard of “the hair tie trick.”  If not, allow me to explain.  In the first few month of pregnancy your clothes will fit most of your body, but not all.  Namely, your midsection.  (Now, I can’t speak for the latter months since I haven’t experienced them yet, but I’ll keep you posted.)  The hair-tie trick is a hack that allows you to get a few more months of wear out of your current pants.  You take one hair tie and loop it around the zipper pull.  A second hair tie loops through the button-hole opening.  You thread the hair tie through itself to create a “knot.”  Then, you can zip up your pants as far as they will go and hook the hair tie around the button.  Repeat this with the other hair tie–loop it around the button to keep your pants fastened with a gap to accommodate the bump.

This isn’t a bad trick– but you do need to have a long top to disguise your partially open pants.  And, be careful when looping the two hair ties around the button that you don’t get them tangled.  This happened to me and I had a momentary panic when trying to use the restroom.

This is an outfit that I’ve worn before but never while pregnant.  I’m wearing my lighter wash skinny jeans using the hair tie trick and a sleeveless kelly green shell.  This blouse is just at the point of not being able to fit my growing chest– that’s another fit issue that I’ve had with a lot of my existing clothing.  Over top I added a navy blue boyfriend cardigan, leopard print ballet flats, and simple silver jewelry.  Later in the day, I did unbutton the last button on the blouse to give me a little more room around the midsection.  Luckily I sit at a desk so I don’t have to worry too much about someone seeing my hair tie and with the cardigan I could just quickly button the bottom few buttons when I got up to run to the bathroom or go on a walk and know that I was covered.

Are there any styling tricks or hacks that you’ve used while pregnant?  Please let me know in the comments below.

Thursday I copied this outfit from Pinterest.  It’s another one of those outfits that consists of a lot of basic pieces that many women have in their closets— black skinny jeans, brown ballet flats, a grey t-shirt, brown belt, stud earrings, and a patterned scarf.  I love the casual nature of the outfit and the comfiness of the pieces but that it still looks pulled together.

As you can see, I duplicated it almost exactly.  My one departure was with the neck ware.  I have lots of scarves but not one that closely resembled the color or pattern of the inspiration photo.  I chose to skip the scarf and instead went with a long necklace with a locket watch in a bronze-gold color.  I thought that helped to tie in the cognac brown belt and brown ballet flats.  I went with silver cluster earrings that I thought paired well with the grey t-shirt and opted to go with my silver watch because it went nicely with the silver in the earrings, the grey of the t-shirt, and the silver belt buckle.  This outfit is a mash-up of different metals and neutrals but I still think that it looks cohesive.  What do you think?

Happy (Belated) St. Patrick’s Day.  I hope that you had an enjoyable day whether you celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with some green beer, corned beef and cabbage, or were just happy that it was Friday and the weekend was imminent.

Here is my green-hued outfit from Friday March 17, 2017.

This year I went with a green turtleneck sweater, lighter wash bootcut jeans, my tan suede booties, a cognac brown belt, and silver and green statement earrings.  I had a dressier outfit idea in mind for the holiday but it didn’t fall on a teaching day so I went with this outfit, instead.

The last few times that I’ve worn this sweater I’ve paired it with gold-toned jewelry and 2 of the 3 times with a longer gold necklace.  This time I opted to do it with silver accessories and without a necklace.  I also wanted to go with jeans since I’ve dressed it up with a skirt and black dress pants previously.  In hindsight, I wish I would have gone with a skinny silver belt or a black belt, but I didn’t.  Next week it’s back to school– Spring Break is over so I’ll be posting more if a mix of business casual and casual outfits.  I also celebrated a small milestone if weight loss (down 5 lbs. since the beginning of the year) and splurged on some new clothes and a magazine.  I will no doubt be incorporating these items into my outfitss over the next few weeks:

A chambray dress, flower printed ankle length pants, a kimono top, a blush colored short-sleeved blouse, and a chambray button-up!
