Archive for the ‘tan’ category

As I mentioned earlier in the week, I wanted to start dressing more business and less casual.  This can sometimes be a challenge with the Winter weather.  But, I’ve said before that even when wearing a skirt or a dress if I layer with tights and boots it can be just as warm as wearing jeans and a sweater.

My outfit for Thursday was based on this pin, here.  I don’t have a white polka dot dress but I do have a navy polka dot top.  I paired it with my navy pencil skirt to create a similar silhouette.  I have a brown cardigan that closely resembles the one in the inspiration photo but it didn’t look right with my outfit.  I went with my shawl neck grandpa-style brown cardigan, instead.  Also, I have a skinny tan belt but because my outfit is a top and a skirt the belt just looked off.  I felt that the change from the polka dot top to the solid skirt was enough of an accent on my waist though.  I went with my flat brown riding boots and finished off the look with pearl cluster earrings and a gold watch.

Friday was a very chilly day and I came across this layered look on Pinterest and thought that it looked warm and chic.  And, it just so happens that I have the pieces to recreate the look.  I started with my black faux leather jacket and leopard print scarf.  In the photo she is wearing a white t-shirt that peeks out at the hem of her brown sweater but I opted to with a black long-sleeved v-neck t-shirt under a tan cardigan for my version.  The tan cardigan I wore Friday is the one that I didn’t wear on Thursday so in the end it all worked out!  I also chose to go with my darker wash bootcut jeans over my distressed jeans.  I had originally planned on wearing my short dark brown boots but the zipper wasn’t cooperating so I had to go with my tan riding boots.  It didn’t make much of a difference since I wore them under my pant legs.

I didn’t have time to take a photo before work so I took this when I came home.  A gold watch and bronze feather earrings finished off the look.  I’m still fussing with the new camera and the best settings for taking my own pictures since my husband isn’t always available to take them.  It’s fun and also frustrating at the same time!  Thank you for bearing with me through the learning process.

This is the outfit that I wore to work on Saturday.  I had originally planned to wear it with my black leather booties, but I wasn’t feeling those shoes on Saturday.  I opted to go with my black ballet flats instead.  The rest of the outfit it pretty much copied from the picture– olive skinny jeans, cognac colored belt, black long-sleeved shirt.

I didn’t go to work, though.  I was rear-ended on my way to work and spent the better part of the morning dealing with that.  I’m fine and so is the other driver but I had to call my insurance company and schedule to have my car looked at and all that fun stuff.  I was shaken up afterwards and a bit sore so I used my vacation time to take the day off to deal with everything.

Since I had worn very basic colored outfits on Tuesday and Thursday I wanted something with some color on Friday.  And, it just so happens that I had purchased a new sweater from Old Navy a few weeks back that I have been wanting to wear.  Thursday’s wet and chilly weather was perfect!

I found inspiration in this outfit collage on Pinterest– a Fall colored sweater, distressed jeans, booties, tan and gold accessories, and a cream-colored infinity scarf.  I basically copied the outfit except for the infinity scarf.  I do have a cream-colored one that would have been perfect but it wasn’t that cold and it was in the trunk of my car that was being serviced.

I also went with a very comfy and very Fall outfit on Saturday, as well.  And, now that I’m thinking about it I also incorporated two new items in my wardrobe into the outfit.  I didn’t realize I’d done so much shopping lately, LOL.

I wore my new black skinny jeans that I bought at Wal-Mart for $8.  Yep, that’s right.  I’m not too proud to say that I shop at Wal-Mart.  I like the look of leggings and sweaters but I don’t believe that leggings are pants and so I went with skinny jeans.  But, I didn’t want to spend a lot on them because I’m not sure how much I am going to be wearing them, y’know?!?  Anyway.  I added my new olive-green v-neck t-shirt and a brown grandpa style cardigan over top.  I didn’t know when I ordered the t-shirt off that it was a longer length but it worked out well for this outfit.  I went with a gold watch as my only accessory even though in the Pin she is wearing a long gold necklace.  I tried it with one and I didn’t like the look so I skipped it.  Lastly, I pulled out my short brown boots and warm black socks to complete the outfit.
