Yesterday I promised you that in lieu of an outfit post I would do a formal and complete update on my New Year’s Resolution’s. Well, I am keeping good on my promise!  Here we are in the middle of February and no one really seems to be talking about their NYR’s (New Year’s Resolution’s).  Can it really be that all the hopes and dreams that we had for the new year have flown out the window within the first two months?  Well, not for this girl!  I am still cognizant of my NYR’s and working diligently towards meeting those goals that I set.

I must admit last week I was thinking about giving something up for Lent.  I’m not religious, but I think that it’s good to challenge yourself and give up your “vices” for a bit.  But, then I realized that would be crazy!  Maybe everyone else has given up on their NYR’s and Lent is a good time for them to renew their commitment, but I’m still working towards my goals and I just couldn’t bear the thought of giving up something else.  I thought about a clothing shopping ban, but then I vetoed that idea.  I wanted to do a 30 for 30 challenge, a la Kendi (I’ve never done one) but I didn’t put enough forethought and effort in to setting it up and then I just said the heck with it!


One of my goals was to read more.  I set the bar at 13 books for the year, or roughly one a month.  In the month of January I read two books: Olive Kitteridge and Rules of Civility.  (I am still working on putting up a Book Report Blog Page.)  I have started reading The Art and Science of Teaching but I realize that I’ve read it before.  I think it’s the kind of book that you can read multiple times, but I’ve only re-read the first chapter.  I think that I want to read a novel, though.


I know that last week was a little light on regular posting, but you’ll have that some times.  I just want to say, thanks for sticking with me!  Also, to help mitigate my (sometimes) erratic posting schedule you could become an e-mail subscriber and have the new posts delivered right to your inbox!  I did manage to fix the crazy formatting of my thumbnails in my Spring 2013 gallery post, though.  Check it out!  One thing that I have also been trying to do is regularly read and comment on other blogs that I adore.  Hopefully this spurs those authors to return the favor!  If you hadn’t notice, I did add links to some of my favorite blogs on the left hand side.  If you go there, just be sure to come back.


Ahhh, credit card and student loan debt–my nemesis.  I hate having this dark, gloomy rain cloud of debt over my head.  But, it is shrinking!  I have money set aside that I was going to use for a washer/dryer but my BF and I still haven’t gotten around to picking them out.  Since the money is just sitting in my checking account collecting dust, I talked to him about using it to pay off one of my credit cards.  It’s not going to save me much in interest– about $60, but every bit counts.  Plus, that’s one less due date to have to worry about each month.  I’m just worried about being able to recoup that money for when we decided to buy a washer/dryer.

Health/Well Being

A few weeks ago, I wrote about a major slip up I had with my diet.  True to my word, I was back in the gym on Monday morning and being calorie conscious.  Since that day, I have gone over my calorie goal twice, but have still managed to stay on track and make my week.  Also, I have added another layer onto my workout routine.  I am still working my way through the C25K program, but now that I am getting down to my weight goal I am starting to shift my focusing on toning up.  This means lifting weights.  I am loosely following a program that does push day arms and abs, legs, and pull day arms and abs.  I did make the mistake of doing an arms and abs day on a busy work night last week, so I have to be a little more planful.

I also wanted to say that I had a day on the C25K program that I couldn’t get through.  I hate to have to admit that!  It has been such a point of pride that I have pushed myself and I have been able to get through them– even the day when I thought I would die after 20 minutes of continuous jogging.  But, no.  I made it through that and was super proud of myself.  It was one of the “easy” interval days.  I have no idea why.  It could be that all the machines were taken and I was doing my weights beforehand.  It may be due to the fact that I tried to do it on a 1% incline.  It may be due to the fact that I was trying to run at a faster pace than I normally do to make the distance and time goals.  I don’t know.  But, what I do know is that I had to slow the treadmill down to a walk in the middle of my “jog” segment.  I was not very happy with myself.

I was feeling pretty bummed.  Also, I was getting down in the dumps because the scale wasn’t moving as much as I thought it should be due to the amount of time and effort I am putting in to watching what I eat and working out.  And then, the other morning I woke up and weighed myself like I normally do and VOILA!  My effort has been paying off.  I am down 4.2 lbs.  I have about another 2 lbs. to go in the next 3-4 weeks to make my goal that I originally set.  It is exhilarating to see the fruits of my labor.  It hasn’t been easy.  I hate counting calories and working out, but I love the feeling of accomplishment that I get from checking another day off on the C25K app.  Plus, it helps that my BF and I are doing this together.  We help each other through the tough times and the struggles.

The last part of my health goals is to drink water.  I haven’t been focusing on this as much, but I have trained myself to drink water at most meals instead of something else.  And, I keep it in the back of my mind that I need to drink water throughout the day.

The health and well-being goal is by far the goal that I am focusing on above all others.  Once I meet my initial goal, I think that I will set some maintenance goals and then shift focus to some of those other goals, or choose some new ones.  I’m trying not to put the horse ahead of the cart, here.
