Old Skool

As I mentioned in my last post, Tuesday (April 1) was my birthday.  Since it is my actual birthday, but at least one person never believes me, I’ve always thought that it would be a really great April Fool’s joke to pull on people.  I mean, how easy is it a week or two before to casually mention that your birthday is coming up?  And then as it gets closer and closer you keep dropping hints.  You could probably get at least one present, right?

But like I said, it is my real birthday so I can’t play that joke on anyone.  Now that I am older and have multiple documents to help prove my existence, citizenship, birthday, etc.  I have a much easier time getting people to believe me.  This year I didn’t have big plans for my birthday.  I did take the evening off from my bartending job, but that was about the extent of it.  And, it was my own doing.  Plenty of loved ones in my life kept trying to get me to plan something, but I just didn’t feel like it.

When I woke up that morning the weather was gorgeous and I started to get really excited.  I had to teach my afternoon class, but besides that I was free and clear for the whole day!  I was really excited to wear one of my new dresses that I recently picked up at Wal-Mart and since it was my birthday I was feeling pretty nostalgic.  I decided to do a throwback Tuesday theme with my hair and makeup.  Fifteen years ago my hair was very long and blonde, but I used to curl it in hot rollers everyday.  Back then my go-to makeup look was somewhat inspired by the movie Titanic with nude lids, dark liner and lashes, and a sort of berry stained pout.  Ten years ago my hair was very short and very blonde and I would frequently do more of a Marilyn Monroe type look with the curls, dramatic black eyeliner and false lashes and true red lips.  I sort of combined those two looks into one.

And even though I am actually showing this outfit with these red peep-toe wedges, I actually didn’t wear them with the outfit. Since I wanted something that was a little more casual, fun, and playful I went with my initial instinct and wore my Chucks, instead.

After class I went to the mall to pick up my pre-order from Macy’s and get my free gift with purchase.  While I was walking around the mall I started to feel something coming on and I just wanted to get home and crawl into bed!  And that’s exactly what I did.  I thought that a small nap might help knock it out of my system, but it was not to be.  That evening when my BF came home I made us some pasta and alfredo sauce for dinner and he ran to Red Box to rent Wolf of Wall Street.  I didn’t hate the movie, but I didn’t love it either.  I can see why it won so many awards, though.

It was an early night to bed for me since I wasn’t feeling well.  I am still battling this bug, whatever it may be!  I’ve been trying to get lots of rest, but that’s hard to do when you work two jobs, write a blog, and have to contribute to taking care of a household.  Luckily, I’ve had  a little time off this week and my BF did the grocery shopping by himself so that I can try to recover.

Cheers to NyQuil cocktails!
