Out of the Ordinary

Monday morning started in a frenzy because I over-slept.  I accidentally turned off the ringer on my smartphone instead of putting it into night mode.  Even though I had my alarm set and it went off when scheduled, I didn’t hear it.  Thus, I didn’t get up at 7 am as anticipated, but rather at 7:45 when my husband came to kiss me goodbye for work.

I jolted out of bed, tore off my pajamas, and hopped into the shower.  I had 30 minutes to shower, eat, get dressed, and depart.  I signed up to learn an additional tour offering at the place where I volunteer and had to be there at 9 am.  Somehow, I managed to get out of the house on time.  Oh, and I didn’t get stuck behind any slow-moving vehicles, school buses, or long traffic lights.  This was all well and good, but I was disappointed when I arrived 10 minutes before everyone else with slightly damp hair.

Le sigh.

The training session was extremely informative and I am glad that I could attend.  It was a bummer that it rained off and on and part of our training took place outside on the grounds.  Since my hair was already a tad damp it didn’t much matter.  After the training I went home and spent some time doing this and that before getting ready for class.  A large part of time went into editing a video for YouTube.

To class I knew that I needed to wear a dress or a skirt and I opted for a dress.  I combined a windowpane printed black and white dress with a bright bolt of royal blue and sparks of gold.

I’ve worn this dress several times and many times I add a color to accent it.  Red is an obvious choice, but I felt that royal blue was somewhat unexpected.  Don’t you agree?  I’ve added a braided leather belt with a gold buckle and a blazer.  I’ve scrunched the sleeves of the blazer to make it more casual and Spring-like.  Then, playing off of the gold buckle I added these blue and gold earrings and my new gold necklace.  Lastly, I could have gone with black pumps, but I thought that was too conventional.  I tried on my navy pumps and liked them well-enough, but in the end chose these nude pumps.  The nude really lengthened the leg line and seemed lighter and fresher.  Also, it highlighted more of the gold tones in the jewelry.

I really liked this outfit and am glad that I challenged myself to move away from convention and style it in a different way.
