Basic Black

Posted by writergrll. Comment (0).

I wore this very basic outfit last Tuesday.  There’s nothing really special about it– it’s a short-sleeve crew neck black t-shirt that I’ve had for years, my lighter wash boot cut jeans, and a pair of Chucks.  But, this day was a milestone for me because I styled my hair.  I know, I know.  But, lately I’ve only really been doing my makeup and just letting my hair do whatever.  So, on this particular day the goal was to do simple and easy makeup and take time to style my hair.  It’s the little things, y’know?  Stay tuned because later in the week my goal was to do both my hair and makeup on the same day and pick out a cute outfit. I’ll let you know if I was successful.

Father’s Day and Repeats

Monday morning always seems to come quicker than any other day, amiright?  Our Father’s Day was very busy.  My husband and I got up relatively early for a weekend day and went grocery shopping.  Then, we went to visit my parents around noon to celebrate Father’s Day.  We spent about two hours hanging out at my parents and then we had to head to our next stop.  We celebrated my mother-in-law’s belated birthday and Father’s Day so on the way to their house we had to stop to get cake and ice cream.  We also grabbed lunch at Dairy Queen.  My in-laws live about an hour away so we got there around 4pm and hung out, ate cake and ice cream, and lounged around in the living room for a few hours.  At around 7:30pm, or so, we arrived back home.  The laundry has started to pile up so I needed to throw in a quick load.  Once the laundry was dry we folded it, put it away, and got ready for bed.

It was a day filled with lots of family, travel, and chores.  Not exactly my favorite kind of day but that’s how it goes.  Anyway.  I wore the top half of this outfit on Sunday and then decided to wear it again on Monday morning with dark wash boot cut jeans and my knock-off Sperry boat shoes.  Truth be told I think that it looked better with the olive-green shorts that I paired it with on Sunday but I’m not 100% sure because I didn’t take any outfit photo’s.  This is just another example of an outfit that I thought looked one way in my head but then when I see the pictures it looks different from I thought.  And, not in a good way.

Lately I haven’t been pre-planning my outfits.  I really should get back in to the habit because I think that I come up with outfits that look and feel good as opposed to feeling overwhelmed at the possibilities and spending a lot of time in the morning searching through my drawers and closet only to find out that my idea doesn’t work outside of my head.

That’s sort of what happened to me on Friday.  I had decided that I wanted to wear my kimono scarf shirt thing.  Even though I wore it with a white t-shirt, skinny jeans, and a pendant necklace last time I still wanted to wear it with a white t-shirt this time.  But, I couldn’t find my short-sleeved white t-shirt.  It is possible that it could be in the laundry basket but I’m not sure.  So, I had to come up with a new plan.

Although I wasn’t too fond of the outfit and felt sort of off the whole day, I had to put clothes on my body to go to work.  I ended up going with an orange-y t-shirt, dark wash cropped jeans, and gold ballet flats.  This time around I tied the front two ends of the shawl to make it more of a “shirt” and less of a topper/completer piece.

I was excited to do something more colorful with my eye makeup that morning.  It doesn’t really show very well in the photo but I did go with a mauve/burgundy/plummy eye look.  But, I didn’t really do anything to my hair.  That’s been the trend lately– I just haven’t wanted to get out the heat styling tools in the morning because it’s been hot and it’s time-consuming.  In this photo my hair is still a little damp.  Later than morning I ended up pulling it up into a quick and messy bun.  I should really think about getting a more Summer-friendly hair do.  Suggestions?
