New Uniform

I wore this outfit on Friday which is super similar in formula to the outfit that I posted about on Wednesday.  A pair of jeans+ a sleeveless blouse + cardigan + ballet flats= dressed and out the door!  It’s been in the mid to high 70’s where I live but in the early morning when I leave for work it’s only around the mid-50’s.  With this type of outfit I don’t need to wear a jacket and I’m comfortable all day long.

The last time that I wore this leopard print tank top I paired it with a black leather jacket and silver accessories.  This time I wanted to accentuate the brown and gold tones so I went with my brown grandpa cardigan, an oversized gold watch, and dark brown ballet flats.

I have realized that I need to amp up my warm weather shoe game, though.  I know most people who know me IRL are probably rolling their eyes and thinking, what?!  But, it’s true.  I have several pairs of ballet flats (black, brown, leopard print, red, purple, and gold) but that’s pretty much it.  I do have my black espadrille sandals that are good but I don’t always want a wedge heel.  I have a pair of black Grecian style sandals but they have seen better days!  I also have a pair of sandals with different metallic colored straps but they aren’t super comfortable to wear for long periods of time.  So, I’ll be on the look out for some new Summer shoes for work.  Any suggestions?

Hello!  I know I say this all the time, but I’m sorry that I ghosted for the last 2 weeks.  After the semester ended I took a break from composing outfits and just threw on whatever.  And, “whatever” doesn’t usually make for good blog material.  And then I got busy with getting ready to go on vacation.  Sunday of this week my husband and I returned from a lovely vacation in Santa Monica, California.

I had never been to California and it was wonderful.  A very laid back and carefree vacation.  We rented bikes for the week and spent a lot of time taking in the scenery of the beach and the pier from our bicycle.  Monday was Memorial Day and gave us a nice day to unpack, do some laundry, and pick up the house keys from my Mom who kept an eye on the apartment, got the mail, and fed the cat.  Tuesday was back to work.

I decided to pair this silky sleeveless blouse with a pair of dark wash skinny jeans.  Although the forecast was predicting high’s in the 70’s I work in an air-conditioned office so I needed a layer for warmth and modesty.  I had lots of choices for cardigans: red boyfriend, red normal, red short-sleeved, navy boyfriend, royal blue short-sleeved, grey, white short-sleeved, etc.  But, I kept it basic and went with a three-quarter length sleeve black cardigan.  I felt that this tied in the black ballet flats nicely.  Although I wouldn’t have minded going in a different direction with my jewelry I went simple and basic and wore my silver hoops and silver watch.  A basic brown eye and red lip sufficed for my makeup.  I wanted to wear a different red lipstick but I was starting to run out of time so I went with this glossy balm that’s a lot less fussy!

There you have it!  My back to work, back to blogging, back to reality outfit.

Thursday I copied this outfit from Pinterest.  It’s another one of those outfits that consists of a lot of basic pieces that many women have in their closets— black skinny jeans, brown ballet flats, a grey t-shirt, brown belt, stud earrings, and a patterned scarf.  I love the casual nature of the outfit and the comfiness of the pieces but that it still looks pulled together.

As you can see, I duplicated it almost exactly.  My one departure was with the neck ware.  I have lots of scarves but not one that closely resembled the color or pattern of the inspiration photo.  I chose to skip the scarf and instead went with a long necklace with a locket watch in a bronze-gold color.  I thought that helped to tie in the cognac brown belt and brown ballet flats.  I went with silver cluster earrings that I thought paired well with the grey t-shirt and opted to go with my silver watch because it went nicely with the silver in the earrings, the grey of the t-shirt, and the silver belt buckle.  This outfit is a mash-up of different metals and neutrals but I still think that it looks cohesive.  What do you think?
