Thursday I had a calibration meeting at work with a few other supervisors other than my own.  I thought that this would be a great time to wear my newest maternity clothing item: a pair of black dress pants with a full belly panel.  I purchased these from Wal-Mart, of all places, a few weeks ago with returning to the classroom in mind.

I put some outfits together last Sunday for the week and I was really happy to get back to pre-planning outfits.  I went through my closet and grabbed all of the tops that I can still make work and the handful of pants that I have.  Many of my outfits this week have featured a long tanktop with a cardigan and either leggings or skinny jeans.

These black dress pants worked really well and I can tell that they are going to be an important part of my Fall wardrobe.  I was even thinking about getting another pair in grey or khaki.  They are a touch long so I did have to wear them with these black ballet flats that have the slightest bit of a wedge to the heel.  Then, I went with a striped silky tanktop and added a black cardigan.  I had originally picked a coral colored short-sleeved cardigan but I didn’t think that it looked right.  I thought the black made the outfit more dressy and pulled everything together.  I went with my silver watch and black flower earrings.  I also went with a dramatic burgundy lip.  I do wish that I had taken more time to style my hair, but oh well.

What do you think?  Do you like this outfit?  Here are a few other ways that I’ve worn this top:

2nd Chance

After my lousy review of this flower printed maternity top last month I decided to give it another go.  First, I sewed back on the button the fell off the sleeve cuff and then I removed each of the buttons at the collar and re-sewed them on more securely hoping it would make a difference.  But, it didn’t.  I thought that since the buttons were sewn on loosely that may have been what was causing them to slip out of their button holes at the slightest bit of movement.  It turns out that I was wrong.  I think that the buttons are simply too small and dainty for their button holes.  So, I didn’t fight the buttons and just wore the top of the shirt open.  I did layer a magenta camisole underneath for modesty and to bring a pop of color in to the outfit.

I paired this loose and flowy top with my dark wash skinny maternity jeans that I gave a large cuff.  To accentuate my bump and sort of make it clear that I’m pregnant and not just gaining weight I added this braided navy belt.  For accessories I went with royal blue and gold earrings, an oversized gold watch, and dark purple ballet flats.  I wasn’t quite sure about adding in another color to the mix with the ballet flats but they are so dark in color that I don’t think they stick out and look weird.  Or, am I just fooling myself?

Anyway.  After giving this top a second chance it is still a dud.  I’ll probably wear it a few more times, but I certainly would not recommend it or purchase a similar top.

2 Years Late

Monday morning I wore this outfit.  After I got dressed my husband remarked, “that’s a different outfit for you.”

I asked, “what do you mean?”

“You’re finally getting on the leggings trend. . .  2 years late.”

And, he’s not exactly wrong.  The whole leggings trend is not something that I’m really in to.  I am a firm believer that leggings are not pants.  But, when you are pregnant and your body starts expanding and you feel uncomfortable in most things except your pajama pants you make exceptions.  I paired this leopard print tank top with black leggings.  I’ve layered it over a black camisole for some modesty and to help support the bump since these leggings are non-maternity.  To keep things from being risqué I added a brown grandpa style cardigan to cover my butt–literally and then threw on my black Grecian sandals to keep the outfit in Summer territory instead of Fall.

Thoughts?
