One of the things that I try to do is wear my clothing items differently.  That isn’t something that is necessarily intuitive but having this blog helps to challenge me.  Not to mention that having the photographic evidence how I wore a certain dress or blouse or skirt makes it easy to see what I’ve done before and push myself towards something different.

Take this collared polka dot dress, for instance.  Here are several ways that I have styled it in the past:

I’ve done a magenta sweater over the dress and a magenta cardigan worn open.  I’ve done it with a black blazer and black tights, a dark wash denim jacket and black riding boots, and I’ve also worn it without any topper– once by accenting with a skinny magenta belt and once with a purple belt.  I’ve styled it other ways before, too, but this is just a sampling.  This time around I went with a burgundy cardigan, the fabric belt it came with, a long pendant necklace, gold watch, and black ballet flats.

I would have loved to have worn my burgundy peep toe pumps but with being 5.5 months pregnant I’m just not that worried about picking the cutest shoes and sacrificing comfort.  Today was the first day that one of my students dared to ask if I am pregnant.  They don’t know me very well but I am not easily offended.

I mentioned briefly that we were moving from our apartment to our first home.  Well, that happened!  Last Thursday was the big day with the movers.  I was extremely happy that everything was moved on Thursday.  But, that meant that the following several days were spent putting the house together and frequent trips to Wal-Mart and home improvement stores for odds and ends and organizational items.  I never thought that shopping for a kitchen junk drawer organizer could make me so happy.

Monday was Labor Day and we didn’t do much but hang about the house and rest and re-charge.  We went to visit my parents Saturday evening and celebrate my Dad’s birthday and pick up a rocking chair that my mom wanted to pass along to us.  On Sunday we went to my in-laws to celebrate my sister-in-law’s birthday with cake and ice cream.  But, Wednesday it was back to work!  I had a 22-week check-up appointment at my Dr.’s before class.  I’ve been wearing dresses but with my check-up I needed to wear a shirt and pants.  I felt like this was the first outfit where it was obvious that I was pregnant but none of my students mentioned it.  I guess there really is a strong stigma against asking a woman if she’s pregnant.

I wore this maternity flowered top with a cream-colored camisole underneath.  I paired it with one of my newest maternity items–khaki pants.  This time around I added a bronze colored belt, brown ballet flats, a gold watch, and gold earrings to finish off the outfit.  I’m sorry that these photo’s are a little blurry.  I took these pictures in my new dining room and I didn’t know that the focus wasn’t set correctly.  I thought about not sharing them but I decided to go ahead and share them, anyway since you can still see my outfit.

What do you think?

Last Wednesday I wore this abstract printed dress for the second day of class.  I had thought about wearing my silver mary janes but since we are moving they were not easily accessible– my black ballet flats were, however.  In these photo’s I’m not wearing much in the way of jewelry– again, due to everything being packed away.  Luckily (weirdly) I had a pair of earrings in my car that I put on before class along with my silver watch.  I did something slightly different with the belt on this dress, too.  The front has a faux belt buckle with two leather flaps and a silver buckle.  I wrapped the fabric portion of the tie belt up and over the disguise the buckle and then instead of tying it in a bow, just knotted it and let the ends hang to provide a more vertical and slimming line.

Lol.  It’s strange to talk about things that might look slimming when you’re pregnant.  I don’t believe that my students know that I am 5 1/2 months pregnant.  In the two outfits that I’ve worn it’s been hard to tell and it hasn’t exactly come up in conversation, yet.  It’s not that I’m trying to keep it from them it’s just not time to tell them yet.  I’ll let us get to know each other better and then I’ll probably wear something that highlights the bump more and address it head on.

I did receive two compliments from students on this outfit.  One woman I passed in the hallway said “you look nice,” and one of my students commented to the same effect.  The compliment from my student may have just been for brownie points but I’m still counting it!

Here are a few other ways that I’ve styled this dress before:

Have a safe and happy Labor Day!
